Folding Information

We print many different folded brochures and cards. When creating your artwork, it is important to set the panel orientations and the fold/score positions correctly.

To assist you in doing this, we have provided explanations, diagrams and guideline templates for all of our folded products on the page below:

A5 folded in half to A6 (4pp A6)

Double DL folded in half to DL (4pp DL)

296 x 148mm folded in half to 148mm x 148mm

Half Fold: A method of folding in which the printing is folded in half down the center of the page to form the finished size (A6).

Artwork for A5 folded in half (4pp A6) should always be supplied as 2 x A5 (148.5 x 210mm) pages and NOT as 4 x A6 (105 x 148mm) pages.

When preparing artwork for A5 folded in half (4pp A6) - PORTRAIT FORMAT - (see diagram below), the front cover should be the right panel of the first page and the back cover should be the left panel of the first page. Page two should contain the inside pages of the brochure.

When preparing artwork for A5 folded in half (4pp A6) - LANDSCAPE FORMAT - (see diagram below), the front cover should be the top panel of the first page and should also be supplied up-side-down. The back cover should be the bottom panel of the first page and should also be supplied the correct way up. Page two should contain the inside pages of the brochure, these pages should be supplied the correct way up.

Double DL folded in half to DL

(Also known as a 4pp DL)

Double DL Fold Diagram

Half Fold: A method of folding in which the printing is folded in half down the center of the page to form the finished size (DL).

Artwork for Double DL folded in half (4pp DL) should always be supplied as 2 x Double DL (198 x 210mm) pages and NOT as 4 x DL (99 x 210mm) pages.

When preparing artwork for Double DL folded in half (210 x 198mm flat) - LANDSCAPE FORMAT - (see diagram below), the front cover should be the top panel of the first page and should also be supplied up-side-down. The back cover should be the bottom panel of the first page and should also be supplied the correct way up. Page two should contain the inside pages of the brochure, these pages should be supplied the correct way up.

When preparing artwork for Double DL folded in half (198 x 210mm flat) - PORTRAIT FORMAT - (see diagram below), the front cover should be the right panel of the first page and the back cover should be the left panel of the first page. Page two should contain the inside pages of the brochure.

A4 Roll Folded to DL

Roll Fold: A method of folding in which the panels fold in on each other to form the finished size (DL).

When folding (roll fold) your A4 printing to DL, we will fold your printing into thirds. Your printing will be folded inward in the same direction twice. This will create a brochure with six panels or pages (three on the front and three on the back).

Artwork for A4 folded brochures should always be supplied as 2 x A4 pages and NOT as 6 x DL pages.

Z-Fold: A method of folding in which each fold opens in the opposite direction to its neighbour, giving a pleated or concertina effect.

When folding (Z Fold) your A4 printing to DL, we will fold your printing into thirds. Each fold will open in the opposite direction to its neighbour - giving a pleated or concertina effect. This will create a brochure with six panels or pages (three on the front and three on the back).

When roll folding your brochures to DL, we will fold your printing into quarters. Your printing will be folded inward in the same direction three times. This will create a brochure with eight panels or pages (four on the front and four on the back).
